ALL right here is the deal. I have had a 90 GT and now I have a 93 LX hatchback. They both have had the same hitting in the rear end and I couldnt find out anything from the other threads on the sight. If I am driving in 2nd gear at about 2500 rpms and let off the throttle it seems that the rear end, i guess catches up with the car and hits. I think it might be the bearings i dont really know any help would be appreciated.
It doesnt always just happen in 2nd gear it happens in all the gears. If you grab the back wheel while the car is on the ground you can shake it and it sounds pretty loud. I dont know alot about rear ends but i figure you guys could help. Thanks in advance

Could be a u-joint going bad or to much clearance in the rear differential.
Just guessing, it would be better to actually ride with you to understand exactly what is going on.
if you can get under the car with the back tires on the ground try and spin the drive shaft. there shouldnt be a lot of play there.. also try pushing it in and out towards the differential. You may have an axle problem the bearing may have gone and causing a lot of movement which can lead to binding and broken axles... pull on everything see if you can re-create the noise
have you had gears installed in both cars by the same shop? it sounds like there is too much backlash between the pinion and ring gears, but i dont know why this would happen to the extent that you would hear a loud noise.
i dont think it would be the u joints because they usually make a vibration when you deaccelerate. check them though just in case.

the only other thing i could think of is that you have a cracked or broken torque box. but i dont think it would be likely to see this in two different cars, unless they have both been driven hard!

Well i am back from the shop and it turns out it was the U-joints. The bearings where out of 2 of the points on the back and wore the F*&^ out. I couldnt beleive the difference. Thanks for the help.I am so glad that was all it was you all had me worried with all the stuff you where talking but it is good now.
