Rob, or any other electronic tuners! I have been working on an EFI 514ci engine for my 1988 F250 4X4 and it’s almost done. What I have been contemplating is converting from Speed Density to Mass Air!
One route would be to use wiring and all from a 96-97 F350, but there are none in the wrecking yards and it would get $$$$$, plus the processor sucks! #2 route would be to order a mass air conversion kit from Ford racing for an 88-95 302-351 truck. They said it would work, but the meter would be too small and it’s calibrated for 19lbs injectors. Summit has the kit for $680.00 plus I would need to buy a meter to match the 514ci and 30lbs injectors. Again lots of $$$$$$$!
Well here comes what I’ve been thinking. I have been studying the wire diagrams for my truck and an 89 Mustang. The wiring and components are almost the same. I would have to add a few wires for the meter and sequential injection and re-pin others. Not too much work to bring the harness up to snuff. I have an A9L processor setting on the shelve. Then just get a Pro-M meter to match. I can do the wiring and the time, it’s the cash that is in short supply.
So the question is, how well do you think the A9L will do with the 514ci? It will not have that much HP, but if I can run the cam I want, it will have BIG torque. I’m thinking it may need some chip tuning, but I’ve seen stock electronics do some pretty good things and with low HP, around 300HP range, I think it would do well.
I don’t know? What do ya-all think?
