I just bought my first mustang and its a '98 v6. What all would i need to change if I wanted to drop a crate 302 in it?

I would aim for a 4.6L engine, they all use the same motor mounts on the kmembers so it might be an easier install then going to a old 5.0 push rod 302. getting a new or used 4.6 can cost just as much nowadays as the older engines. I'm sure someone out there has a used 4.6L 4v or 2v engine with the computer you can drop right in. The wiring harnesses are generally all the same.

Not to mention the if you wanted the older 302 you would need a new transmission as well since the mounting points are different. If I were you I would aim for a 98 4.6 4v engine with the computer. Check out the various mustang baords and ebay and I'm sure you'll find something within your budget.
