Default 289 in a 92 LX

Hello all,

I bought a 289 some time ago with the intent to rebuild and stick into something once I figured out what year mustang I wanted. Several years have passed and I've really not spent too much time thinking about it, until recently I was given a 92 LX (4 cylinder auto).

My question, relatively speaking, is it easy to put the 289 into this LX (AC components, new tech, etc.... also I did plan to go EFI) or should I keep looking for a 60ish? I have to admit this is the first engine I've ever attempted to rebuild and really don't know everything I need to know, I just wanted to hear from people who do and see what they have to say before I really get started on this LX.

You will be very suprised exactly how easy it is, I have done over 10 swaps for customers and have yet to run into a major snag. The wiring is really the most difficult and time consuming part of the whole deal.(for me anyway) If you do plan on using that 289 remember that it is a 28oz balance motor and will require a special balancer and flywheel or flex. If you have all of the EFI swap components its all bolt on. Remember that your fuel pump and lines will also need to be swapped. As far as the engine assembly goes if you have a reputable machine shop in your area(one you don't have to double check) there is no reason you could not assemble your own motor. If you need a hand let me know there is nothing you can't be walked through.

Depending on where you live, you have a good chance of the car not passing emmsions because you normally can't swap an older engine into a new car. Also, you'll need to swap out the oil pan and oil pickup because the pre-Fox cars used a front sump, where the foxes use a rear sump pan.

My question is why? 289's are great but why not sell it and get a 351? You can pick a rebuildable 351 for less than $300.
