Default 1995 5.0 to 460 conversion.

I just bought a 1978 lincoln with a 460, c6 short shaft, and it has a 9 inch in it already. i've been looking at stroker kits already and i think i'm going to just have the stock heads ported. What I need is info on headers! Also, if any of you have any info on motor mounts, oil pans and other stuff like that, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm going to get the rear end narrowed and i'm getting 31 spline axles with a 4.30 gear. i'm also going to fuel inject it. I also want to run NOS. Other than that, i'm still up in the air. Any suggestions will be taken into consideration seeing how this is my first Big Block.

Thanks!

Jon

You are gonna need to cut the strut towers and install coilovers, i dont see how to fit a 460 under that hood, and for that matter you will need a taller hood too.
As for the pan, call Canton, they might have one that might work.

Headers.....im thinking custom made, hard to fit in there, clearance problems with the steering shaft and sides of the engine bay.

Lots of custom work !

If you can install a DOHC 4.6 in that engine bay, you will be able to fit a 460 with no cutting.

Rob's right a cowl hood will need to be used. Maybe some Fox 460 headers will work or get you started. Call Hooker Headers or some customs like from Kooks.

The Lincoln did not use a 9" differential, they used a 9 3/8". The two look very similar. The 9 3/8" housing and axles are strong as help, but the third member is garbage! Axles are already 31 spline. You can use a 9" third member in a 9 3/8" housing, but not the other way around.

Why such a low gear? I would use the torque of the 460 and run a 3:55 or 3:73
