89 should be fine, but if you notice pinging on acelleration... go with the 93

I always use the highest grade. BUT, believe it or not, I use it for better gas milage. When I use the 87-89, it runs like poo poo (happy mods?) and burns gas quick. I have a "pretty much" stock motor.

Thumbs up High Octane or not???

What Octane is best to use? I have a 02 GT and it is supposed to run on 87 right? When I hit the gas, it would sometimes feel like it was losing power. I started putting in 93 and don't have the problem anymore. The car is new so I didn't think it was a mechanical problem. I was ok with that until I read somewhere that the lower octane gas will actually give you more HP. It that correct? Should I take it to the dealer and complain that it doesn't run right on 87? Maybe something is wrong... I am getting ready to do some mods and I want to be sure everything is "cool" first.

false.... you should run on at least 89. 87 is not a high enough octane for anything performance... you got the car, you have to pay for the gas... premium gas does feel better, but if you're trying to get away cheap, use 89...

I have no problem paying for gas. A few extra bucks per fill-up is nothing. I just wondered if that was true...

Not a pro on the topic, but wouldn't you think if they wanted tyou to run premuim gas they would tell you. 2000 GT, owners manuals says 87 octane anything higher may damage vehicle. All horsepower ratings are on regular gas. If the are rated on premuim they will show it. As for the cheap part I would rather spend money on go fast Parts than gas.

One thing more if you have a perfomance chip in your car u probably need premuim.

I use and sell Octane Booster. I mix it with 87 octane gas right at the pump every fill up. In the long run it is cheaper then paying for the higter octane gas at the pump. I feel it works better and also helps keep the fuel system cleaner. You can feel it when the mixture hits the engine. Many of my friends have been using it in their 4.6L & 5.0L Mustangs and love it.

One 32oz can treats up to 55 gallons of gas, so one can last roughly a month.

If anyone is interest e-mail me at kcpressel@suscom.net

Al right i am confused here. Do i need to run Premium gas in my GT? Ever since i bought the car i have ran 93 in it. Now if i were to run 87 or 89 would i still get my maximum horse power? Like i said i have never put anyhting in it besides 93. I think that my injectors might be gertting clogged. doesn anyone knoiw of anything that will un clogg those injectors??? And does it reallyt work?

you should run at least 89 in it... if you get detonation under hard accelleration stick with premium.. they say you dont get more power with higher octane, but sotp feels it..even if its only mental.. Redline makes a fuel injector cleaner that works great.... either that or Lucas FI cleaner...

With some research on OCTANE levels, I have found that a lower octane rating actually ignites FASTER. My 97 GT's computer is calibrated from FORD for running 87 Octane. A higher octane will ignite too late in the combustion chamber. (I read about this because I ran premium thinking it would be better in a sports car and my check engine light came on before that tank of gas was gone)

If you advance the timing, increase compression ratios, or add boost you will have to run higher octane gas. Adding a computer chip normally requires the use of higher octane gas because they change the timing or the fuel mapping parameters.

Put in 87 Octane and save the 5-7 cents per gallon! Take that money and buy the supercharger.....then run 93 Octane.

I always run 93 octane in my 98 stang but one day i was a little short on money so i ran 87 and when i would get on it and take off fast it would ping. I could notice a difference in performance.Thats why i always run 93.
