Does swapping out springs to advance timing, work on 3.8 or 4.6 distributers?

I've got a question re: distributors. An old hot-rodding trick I've used on every Ford I've ever owned was to swap out the springs in the distributor to advance the timing curve. I believe it was Mr. Gasket pant #925D. Does this work for the 3.8 or the 4.6?

The 4.6 does not have a dist, don't think the 3.8 does either but I am not 100% sure.

the 3.8 donesn't either.....they are both coil on plugs.

can you buy a timing adjuster from steeda for the 3.8? I know they have one for the 4.6
