make sure the "check engine" lights up when you start the carand then goes off after a few seconds. Some used car dealers around my area have been known to take out the bulb from it when it stays on. Also dyou could visually inspect the brake rotors without taking off the wheels to make sure they are even and not being "grooved" by worn brake pads. Make sure all signals work with the lights on as well as off, sometimes if a vehicle has an electrical short they will work but once the lights are on they don't. the last thing I could recommend is try to have someone follow the vehicle in another car and make sure it drives straight. Some vehicles that have been in accidents and repaired can have a bent chasis or the rear "out of wack" and you won't know it by driving it.
GOOD LUCK!
