Also since I have never done any mods myself I was looking at all the other mods members here have listed in their signatures. Almost all seem to have K&N listed. Is K&N the best company to purhase improved air flow products from?
And my last question though it will sound dumb to many of you here, but here goes anyway. Is a K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit the exact same thing as a Cold Air Intake? From the pics on the webiste I would say they are the same, but I want to make sure first. If they are not the same what is the additional benefit of getting a Cold Air Intake over K&N's Fuel Injection Performance Kit?
Thanks in advance for any help provided, sorry if any of my questions seem elementary.

their cold air kit is better than just a filter... if the filter actually draws in cold air, then its good.. but if it sits under the hood and sucks up engine heat, then it hinders performance...

OK so K&N's Fuel Injection Performance Kit "IS" the same thing as a Cold Air Intake then? That is what I gather from your answer, and if I am correct is K&N the best manufacturer to buy a Cold Air Kit from? If not what are some other good manufacturers I should research?
I saw you have a BBK Cold Air Induction system, but after looking around the net a bit I didn't see that BBK had a CAI available for a 2001 4V Mustang. Any advice?

from the picture i saw on that website, it is not a cold air induction.. it does not go inside the fender well and draw cold air.. its an open element filter that soaks in engine compartment heat... unless they have a shield for it, i would look into other brands.. im not sure who makes them like that for that year tho...
They both are the same. I have the FIPK. You won't see all that much more haveing the FIPK. Personally i would get the filter and keep the stock airbox. That way it's not sucking in engine heat, and you can run duct work from the airbox to draw cooler air.
K&N is the most popular brand name but many other companys have the same type of cotten element like MAC, BBK (use's K&N) and Holley also makes cotten filters. It helps having the plastic ducting coming from the air filter but I like the way the chrome ducting looks(but it will heat up from the engine) still better than factory ducting though. As in what type of filter is best it depends on what brand you prefer. Remember you will also pay for the name but cotten is cotten.

Mac makes a CAI for your car. It says it is $169.50. The picture however looks like only for a GT because dont cobras have a more oval like intake tract. I think i have seen a Mac Cobra CAI but it was more expensive than the GTs. It was like $230 but it looked really good
Sorry to sound naive but I put a K&N filter in my GT just because it looked like it was a better product for the long run... could someone explain what an air silencer is and why you remove it... Thank you...

the air silencer connects to the factory air box. it reduces the intake air hole size to a smaller one by use of a rubber or plastic device that allows for quiet air draw.. if you take it off, you get a cool air swoosh sound, but some people like quiet cars... i dont know why..
Thank you for the info, I will try to find it tomorrow and remove it, I like a little noise...By the way, I am very happy with the B&M shifter I installed, it has a very nice feel to it, Im glad I went with a short throw shifter...
AFM has a tech article up here http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/49.shtml on how to remove the Air Silencer step by step including pictures could prove very helpful to you Cobra11553 if you plan on removing it

Have a look at Western Motor Sports Velocity intake with recallibrated Pro M MAFF. Going to be my next purchace. www.wmsracing.com It includes K&N filter, not cheap but I here it is an excellent product. These guys are big Ford folks up here in great white north. They test what they build.
