87 mustang rear end
my son just got 1987 mustang lx.it has a 302 in it.the guy he got it from said it had a 4 cylinder in it .i notice that it seems to be low geared . what i need to know does the 4 cylinder rear end need to be changed to a different ratio.and if so can some one tell me what to get. it has a automatic in it

A stock 4 cylinder rear end is a 7.5 " and the 302 cars had an 8.8 " rear . I would first make sure it has an 8.8 and if it does not then I would get one and put it in . After that , 4.10 gears will work pretty good with an auto . I assume by low gear you mean it's a little sluggish getting going ? if so , then a 3.73 or a 4.10 would work perfect .
