I'm in the middle of putting a 351W HO in my 77 coupe from a 302. From reading I understand the 302 oil pan will not work on the 351W, is this true? Is it possible to cut the sump hump off the 302 pan and weld to the 351W? And is it possible to use the pickup tube from the 302? This 351W has an oil cooler on it also so is a reduced size in pan OK if I make it a little shorter? Any help is greatly appreciated!

The 302 pan will not work on the 351W, the main caps are larger on the 351 and therefore the pan has to be larger to accomodate them.
It would be possible to weld the sump to the 351 pan, but chances are good it will leak, why not just use a pan from a 351 Crown Victoria or Bronco, they fit the Fox chassis.
Cannot remember if the oil pump tubes will work or not, but in theory they should be fine maybe just have to bend ot a little to line up the main cap fitting.
