Default 1994 power windows won't go down smoothly

Just recently, my driver's side power window quit working properly. It still has power, but it will not go down smoothly. When it gets to the bottom, the motor continues to run, making a ratcheting sound. When it comes up, it won't come up all of the way without me pulling up on the window to help it reach the top.

I took the door panel off to try to find something broken, but could't find anything out of the ordenary. The tracks seem to be lubricated fine. I can't get to the motor and can't see much inside the door panel. Even if I could, I don't know how I would replace it. There are only a few holes in the sheetmetal to work through.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chuck

Such is the problem with ALL automobile doors since the last century. Strength and security do not come free.

Not seeing an obstruction in the window tracks leads me to concur that the motor is prolly failing.

Since this is your first trip inside the door frame, unless you are handy in working with tools in cramped spaces, blindly reaching for unreachable spots, and dropping that socket deep into the dark crevices....I'd suggest turning the matter over to your service tech before you crack the glass.

Or, be prepared for some words befitting a sailor, some frustrations, and possibly a minor failure. Remember, this is not rocket science, and the window is not a safety item. Start looking for a motor.

The problem with your window motor is the child safety bumps in the motor driven gear is stripped. The motor has been superseaded to a motor & regulator ass'y for aprox. 130.00. However the problem can be repaired less expencively by getting a driven gear repair kit from a Crown Vic. for about 25.00. All you do is take the tin cover over the gear off and replace the gear. Some gears are different sizes, depending on year & model. If the case is such, then you will need to remove the regulator arm gear from the center of your old gear, smooth out where the bumps were, take apart the new gear in the same manor, remove the 3 rollers, place them in the old gear & reinstall your orignal center gear, apply grease that came with the kit, reassemble and your repaired. Works like new.

to get to the motor right above your door speaker there will be 3 little bolts undo those and also take out your door speaker then your window motor will come down
