With straight through if you look in one end you can see out the other. Regular mufflers have baffles in them and you cannot see through them, they are more restrictive.

Does anyone know if stock cats are straight through or baffled?

Brew-man is correct, a more clear picture is if you cut a muffler in half long-ways, on a FlowMaster, they have triangular-shaped risers (baffles) and the sound hits those and divides off to quiet it a little, thats also why FlowMasters have that metal vibrating sound... straight-thrus are a ported tube surrounded my sound muffling material.. (most times looks like cotton) ... this is true with some brands..

"Does anyone know if stock cats are straight through or baffled?"

Cats really are more straight through than anything. For those who have never seen inside one, what it looks like is a small muffler with a very fine honeycomb brick inside of it, about 100-150 holes per square inch. (I have a chunk of cat brick right here... I just didn't measure an exact square inch). The size of the "bricks" vary, and honestly I'm not sure what size they are on mustangs, I just know the newer ones have 4-6 of the dang things. Geez! My Camaro had ONE! (Well, for a while, now it has none ) But the bricks on the camaro were about 4X2X2 and there were 2 inside one housing. But also keep in mind thats on a Y-piped single exhaust. If you hold on up to a light, you can actually look through them, but only at a perfect straight angle.

That help at all?
