Default 1986 LX Conv 3.8. Oil Leak, Happy 100000 miles!

Hello,

First off I want to celebrate the car making it to 100000 miles tonight. It's the first time that zero has been seen in well over 19 years. Here is a picture...

Now for the problem. I've got an oil leak somewhere. It's on the bottom drivers side of the engine. Whenever I stop, or park, that side is sprayed with oil and it always results in a small puddle. It's worse when driven, and I burn/loose 2 quarts ever 300 miles or so. What should I check? Here are some pictures of the general area.

Where you can see that accordian looking dust cover, that thing is always soaked.

Hi,

Congrats on the miles... For the oil leak, i'm thinking if it at the bottom of the engine maybe the oil pan leaking...

That's a good start. Do you see the white oil filter in picture 5? The support to the right of it is always soaked, yet that is higher than the oil pan I believe. Of course with the air flow it may raise.

Questions:

Do you think I should take the valve cover off and replace the gasket?

Should I, Can I, somehow reseat the oil pan as to attempt to fix the leak?

I can take any more needed pictures if necessary to better diagnose.

Thanks,
Clint

Why not rev the engine at the throttle and see if you can see it coming out.. That's an insane amount to be losing like that.

Have fun cleaning up when the problem's fixed
