Unhappy will an 8.8 rear fit in my 1966 mustang v8

I made a spontanious purchase on e-bay and bought a 8.8 posi unit for my 1966 fastback with a 289. After the purchase, I come to find out this was in a later model car. Will this unit fit in my model or do I neeed to find a new home for it. Thanks for an y help or advice you can offer me. Chris
