Default top loader in a 86 mustang?

I want to know if a ford toploader 4 speed will fit into a 86 mustang without cutting the floor pan, and if the shifter will fit the factory console. Any advice will help. thanx

I think the shifter will line up, based on articles I've seen about swapping T5s into first gen 'Stangs. I know you'd need a different bellhousing ('79-'83 Mustang, or Tremec), and the driveshaft yoke is probably different. You might have better luck in the classic tech room, at least some of those guys have probably done the reverse swap.

I am pretty sure you will need to 'massage' the floorpan an d console to make it fit.
The toploader uses an entirely different shifter design, which will make for a tight fit in a fox tunnel.
