Default 1966 Mustang Starting with key Problems

I have a 1966 Mustang that I am having problem starting with the key. I have replaced every little thing I can think of to replace. I have replaced the ignition switch, solenoid, and alternator. Before I started replacing things I took the battery and had it checked, keep in mind my car has not been started in two years. Battery was good (Sears Die-Hard). When I tried to start my car it turned over twice and then the key wouldn't work anymore so that is when I started changing parts. Before I started changing parts we started it by pliers to both sides of solenoid..started and ran like a top so I backed it out of the garage so I could work on it. When I turned the key to shut her off she wouldn't shut off by key either, so had to pull battery cable. Now I started changing all of the above parts..The last thing I replaced was the alternator and that was this morning. To no avail the key still won't start my car, but it does now shut off by the key. So I was discussing it with a mechanic this morning and he said he thought it was the neutral safety switch...What do all of you think, if I may ask

Jumper wire the switch and see if it does. It makes sense.
