Default Clutch adjustment question

Hey folks. I have an aftermarket clutch quadrant and a firewall adjuster that were already on the car when I bought it. I can't tell who they were made by. All I know is that a couple wks ago I broke the clutch cable and my mechanic couldn't get a Ford cable to fit. Here's my prob. The clutch doesn't engage until the pedle is nearly all the way out. I've tried settin the firewall adjuster from all the way in ( that's how it was when the car came back from the shop), to screwin it all the way out and it don't make jack difference. I want the clutch to engage close to the floor. I don't like having my knee nearly slappin the steering wheel before the damn thing engages. Any thoughts on how to make that happen or why the firewall adjuster doesn't make any difference would be a big help.

Check the quadrant and make sure there isn't more than one hook for it to be set at. You may be able to change its position and take up alot of that slack.
