Default Temp gauge doesn't indicate overheating

Blew a heater hose last night, no indication from temp gauge that I was overheating. Got pretty hot, gauge stayed about half way between cold and hot. Completely out of water and Very hot. Could the coolant have left the system so fast that the sender was high and dry or what? This could be bad...

Wow, that sucks.

Yes, the coolant could have left that quick. When there is no coolant the sensor will not be accurate at all. Hopefully you let things cool overnight before trying to add water.

Sorry for your bad luck!! Maybe it will be O.K. As the person before me stated .. With no coolant it could have read even lower than it did.
