3 speed auto to AOD

i've got an older car that i want to put an AOD in.. is that posiable? do they make some kinda harness to do this? or do you have to convert the car to fuel injection to get the overdrive in it?.. its an old boat... 77 Mercury Marque... Can it be done... without changeing too much other stuff.?

I put an AOD (not AODE) in a 69 F100 with a 351W. I used a kit from Total Performance. The kit was just a throttle position cable and brackets to be used with a carb. I had to tack weld a tab onto the throttle linkage of the carb. Worked great!

Kewl.. Love to cruise in this old boat... just gets really bad mileage.. i think the overdrive will really help it out... if i can get it to work...
whats the main differance between the aod and the aode?? just that the aode is electronic controlled... do they perform about the same ?
not looking to make this thing go fast or anything just get it into the 20's for gas mileage... it has the 351 M 400 suposedly a factory bored 351 to a 400??? thats what i was told any way..
