Default Torque

So I was playing alonge today with when to shift and I found that my stang seems to have more punch to it when I shift around 4000 to 4500 RPM. Now everyone says that when you are at the strip shift at 5500 but if you are getting more torque when you shift at 4000 to 4500 shouldn't you shift then? Or are torque and Horsepower completely independent of eachother?

As for shifting, I would think that you want to shift at the peak of your torque band. If the peak is around 4000 RPM, then there really is no need to continue past 4500-5000 RPM.

well it depends on your motor, it depends on how many mods you have to decide what your torque curve will look like so there no definate number.

although you do want to shift around the peak of your torque curve.

You launch 200 RPM before peak torque and shift 200 RPM past peak HP. Torque gets you moving, HP pulls you out the back end.
