Default IS it worth it to set up a Ram Air?

I've been thinking about setting up a ram air on my car for awhile now. For some extra boost till I can get my other mods... is there a real performance gain? Or is it not worth my time to fabricate something up...I’ve had a local mechanic tell me that there is no benefit to it. The PSI boost is too minimal…

Your mech is right the gain is mostly from the cold air. So you are better of making a cold air kit.

well, heres my two cents...
I "ghetto rigged" (as my friends called it) a cold air induction system for my 95 cobra. This is an example of what NOT to do.
I went to home depot and got some airduct (mainly used in home air-conditioning units) and ran it from the front grille up through the fender and into the stock airbox. I then got some cardboard and duct tape and taped the ducting onto the airbox so that no air got into the airbox except the cold outside air throught the tube. Seemed like a logical idea.. now my car is getting cold air, how can that be bad?
Well the problem was that the tubing diameter was too small meaning i WAS getting cold air, but not enough of it. The tubing i used was the biggest available that would fit into the hole in my airbox... but it just simply was not getting the car enough air. I noticed nothing up high, down low i lost power.
I asked my mechanic about a good system to buy.... He said they are a big mistake, minimal gains and even bad for your car. He says if you're going to do anything just get cold air (through fender) rather than a ram air kit.
Air in the fender is just as cold as air outside.

Take my word for it..... get cold air NOT ram air.... and DONT....WHATEVER YOU DO...BE AS STUPID AS I WAS AND TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN.

That looks good man, better than my flexible pvc hose. which i was btw able to squeese through the front lower nose piece. you can't see it unless you're laying on the front of the car though.

Be very careful with running any tubes out toward the front of the car or any where near the road, unprotected or not sheilded. Make sure you avoid large puddles and flooding during rainstorms. An old friend of mine bent 2 rods sucking up water, and my sister-in -law bent 2 and threw one through the pan in her Dodge Neon because of that problem.
Just some advise
