Default clutch ratcheting noise???

Ive got an 82 gt the clutch isnt working until very end of the stroke but doesnt fully engage, its hard to push and upon return it makes a ratcheting sound from the clutch lever under the dash has anyone ever ran across this problem? thanks all input would be appreciated

that sounds like the self adjusting clutch quadrant. if you slide your seat all the way back and look up under the dash you will see a white plastic cam looking thing with teeth on it. thats probably not grabbing anymore, as do most of those dumb things on these cars. I would advise getting an aftermarket quadrant that is metal and non adjustable, and replace the clutch cable with an adjustable one while you are in there.
