i would like to tune my motor, and get the fuel air mixture close to optimal. I'm not sure were to start and don't want a custom chip.
i have black soot in my exhaust indicates a rich fuel mix. how can i adjust for a slightly leaner mixture? I'm running 43.5 lb of fuel pressure and have 30 lb injectors. timing is set at 15 to 16 degrees. should i lean out the motor
by changing the tps volts? will doing this change the air fuel mixture?
thanks.

TPS voltage has absolutely nothing to do with your A/F ratio. The information that the ECU uses to control the mixture comes from the front O2 sensors. The only way you'll get the optimum mixture is to have the car dyno tuned.

There is no way to properly adjust the fuel curve without a chip, you can use a MAF adjuster or change fuel pressure, but that will move the whole curve UP or DOWN, that means if you are stoich at one point, then moving the curve down will LEAN at that spot.
My advise: chip
Band Aids: fuel pressure regulator, Electronic MAF Adjuster, porting the MAF.
TPS wont do a thing for AF ratio.
The only way to correctly tune A/F is to import an accurate MAF transfer function into the EEC and then use a wideband O2 to change the desired A/F ratios in the fuel load tables
Isn't 86 one of the years that Speed Density was used and not MAF?

thanks for the info, but will a wide band o2 sensors work in my mustang? i was reading this about air fuel . by fooling the ecu into thinking it has more air charge the ecu will add more fuel.. so in theory couldn't it work both ways to lean fuel out?http://www.gadgetjq.com/tps_adjust.htm

That's a cheap way to deal with a serious issue. I wouldn't want to try that.
