Default Cutting lowering springs...

I purchased my 02 GT a few months back and assumed it had been lowered due to after market springs that were installed. At the time I wasn't sure how much it was lowered but the look I was going for wasn't their so I decided to purchase a new kit through Summit to lower the car another 1". The kit I purchased looked to be right but when we installed it it actually raised my car .5". So by this I assumed the original lowering springs lowered the car an 1.5" from stock. So obviously I was disappointed with the result that I had gotten after spending $500 on this new kit. The guy that was installing my parts recommended cutting a coil off my original springs and re-installing them. He said it would give me the look I want but not the performance. I guess my question is what are the negatives with cutting the original springs? And if I did decide to go with a 2" lowering spring what would u recommend?

Depending on type, it can have very negative effects on the Spring rate and give you a very and I mean very harsh ride. Plus since it will compress the shocks a little more as well, it thoughs off the spring and damper rates that will cause the designed vibration rate to get off. This will cause odd spikes in chassis movement.

Just send the springs back or sell them and get a real kit that you want. Cutting Coil Springs are never the answer unless you want to ride like a ricer.

do not cut your springs. give those new springs a chance to settle in man, they arent going to be perfect right out the box. give it some time, the car will settle in, and the springs will compress a bit. if youre going with a 2 inch drop, as with any drop, you get what you pay for. eibach sportline will lower you 2 inches and give you great performance. 2 inches is low, very low, but i guess the roads are better out there.

it usually takes like 6 months for a new set of springs to really settle. (ever notice how new cars seem to sit so high?)
