Unhappy 68 - sticking starter

Hello. I've just finished restoring (resto mod) a 68 coupe. Every thing mechanical is new.. from the diff, to the brakes, to the motor etc etc etc... I'm ready to fire the motor up.. coil disconnected to get oil pumped through.. BUT.. when I turn the motor over, it keeps turning over after I turn the key back and even take the key out. I've read a few threads about similiar problems. I've tried two different starter relay switchs... the starter is new, all cables new.. I'm 100% sure the wiring is correct. Can a bad motor to body ground cause this? I pull the pos cable from the batt to stop the starter motor, and it does.. then, when I pull the neg cable, I can hear the relay open back up. I'm highly frustrated. 15k in new parts.. and this is stopping me from cranking up.. Please help if you can!!! I'd greatly appreciate it. I've pulled the ignition switch behind the key cylinder and tested the posts.. all seem to funtion properly.

This won't help you at all, but I had the exact same thing happen to me about 3 weeks ago. I have a '69 fastback that I used to drive 12 years ago, that we recently got back into shape. When that starter stuck, I was ready to pull the battery cable like you, but after enough jiggling with the key I got it to stop turning over. First time that's ever happened, and I've had the car for years. I'm hoping that won't happen again, but it would be nice to be able to fix the pb.

Default Fixed

skratch,

Problem fixed. I put a new ignition switch in .. still did the same thing. I replaced the starter relay, third one, with a motorcraft relay.. no more problems.. Damn Advance Auto cheap relay!!!

Good luck with yours!
