I was driving today when i had a scary moment. Im just messing around, you know 0 to 70 as fast as you can. The throttle or something caused the car to reach an insane speed. with me holding on Im praying my motor was not going to blow up. the throttle stuck wide open, and i was in 4th gear probably at about 100 miles an hour or so.
I stepped on the clutch but it continued to rev up, so i put it back in fourth and mashed the gas peddle like 5 times before it unstuck itself. Any ideas why it did that, or how to fix, before it happenes again.

My first guess would be a piece of carpet was holding the throttle down or the throttle cable linkage needs some lubrication.

One way to pull the reins back on that pony is to make darn sure that you have secure motor mounts on her/him especially on the driver's side. Place the car in drive or 1st gear with your foot on the brake, auto trans, emerg. brake, std. trans and look at your engine to see if it's moving. Any real noticable engine movement is probably the source of your problem. hope to help.---------Chuck
well I lubed the throttle body and it seems like it is still doing it to a point. Could the iac be causing it to surge with my foot off the peddle? I don't think anything is sticking as far a the TB goes. The peddle comes all the way back up when I take my foot off it. The motor mounts are new. mabey its just a lot of fuel pressure forcing its way through the injectors? Sometimes after a I stop at a light in neutral the idle stays high at like 1500 to 2000 rpms.

An IAC can get gummed up and start sticking. Pull it off and clean it with electrical contact cleaner. The contact cleaner won't hurt the electrical portion of the IAC. If that doesn't help swap it out. Hope you can find a solution. Good luck,--Chuck
