Default Water Pump Impeller

I have an 89 5.0 with a (reverse rotation) serpentine water pump. I've been having a hard time eliminating a cooling problem. i just pulled off the water pump and I think I have a CW rotation pump. When I spin the pump CCW the impeller blades are going "with" the direction the shaft is turning. Shouldn't the impeller blades be going against the flow as to "catch" and "throw" the fluid, i.e. pump it? The pump is fairly new and the car doesn't get driven much, so it's possible I haven't driven the car long enough to notice the cooling problem until recently. I'm going to hit my buddy hard that got me this pump if this has been the problem all this time. Some "hook up" he has, huh?

Nevermind. I found some photos. I think I have the correct pump orientation. Damn! These stamped impellers aren't shaped as seems they should be, but that's what I get for thinking, I guess.

You could also look into getting an electric water pump. It still has the pulley on it, but it only spins on the mount. The electruc water pumps generally spin 2-4 times faster than the mechanical ones. Of course they do cost a little bit more, typically $75 - $150+
