Default Antenna Replacement

How to I go about shortening the antenna on a 2003, Mustang GT?

Should I just buy a shorter one?

Can you buy a shorter one? Antenna's are usually a certain lenght for proper reception, so shortening it will probably cause you some reception issues.

Side cutters will work, but becarefull of the reception fluid inside, it will eat the paint.

hey, i did that it and now it looks great. It is a stock 31 inches i think, i took mine down to 20 inches. Reception wasn't effected for me. On mustangworld.com some guy took his down to 18 and reception wasn't effected. I suggest doing it, it looks great.

Is the antenna on a 2003 the same as on a 1995 ??? Mine hits the water pipes in my underground car park !

Do you just cut the antenna off while it is on the car ?? Dosen't it become sharp after cutting the top off ???

I took mine off the car and cut it with a hacksaw. Hammered off the ball end by putting pliers snug on the bottom side of the ball end and hammered the pliers (watch out the ball will go flying off). I then ground down enough of the end of the cut antenna to fit in the ball end and glued it with epoxy. Touch up paint with black and you’re all set. Haven’t had much trouble with reception although it’s not has well as stock, but it looks better.

I shortened mine per the mustangworld mod list. 18" tall. I didn't lose any reception at all and it looks great! I would recommend it to anyone you doesn't like the long/tall (lightning rod) antenna. Be careful...the bal will fly and make sure you grind the end down to fit the ball back on. the antenna shaft is tapered so the shorter length cut without the grinding will not fit the ball back on.

Good luck!

Sorry, well at least he is competent in other ways. Because I do most everything my Wife asks (except shopping) I just assumed you did not have a Husband. Hope you can do it, good luck and you can always send it to one of us in the mail and we'll fix it up for you.
