Exclamation New Clutch Slipping

I have a 96GT. I recently had a grip force clutch and Chrome Moly flywheel installed. The first day it was great, then it wouldn't go into gear. The shop said that my clutch cable and quadrant were bad. So all steeda parts put in. Great! Now car will go into gear, but clutch is slipping in 4th & 5th with minimal power. As the day progresses (100 miles) the clutch is slipping in 3rd then 2nd with minimal power. I tried adjusting the firewall cable adjuster. Didn't make a bit a difference to the slipping problem. Only seemed to affect where the clutch grabbed, but still won't hold under minimal power? WTF anyone?

The excessive slippage you experienced with the new clutch may have over heated the clutch disc. If this happened the resins that bond the clutch material together have risen to the surface of the disc creating a glaze. This is similar to not breaking in a new set of disc brake pads. About the only cure for this problem is replacing the clutch disc and following the manufacturers break in procedures. The glaze that formed on the clutch disc cannot just be sanded down. It's there for good. Just make sure you don't abuse the clutch until it's broken in or else it's going to happen again.---Chuck
