hello all. about 6 months ago i got a hold of a 1989 mustang lx. its a little v4 engine and im already looking for a 5.0 engine, or really any v8 engine. the problem is im not sure what parts i will need to swap out. i know i need a new bell housing, computer...but what else? i would really appreciate if i could get a reply on what is needed. thanks.

With the cost of conversion. I would just buy a V8 stang. Unless your planning on doing a race only stang. What are your priorities? Where are you loacted (any smog issues?). Let us know what your exact plans are. We'll be more than happy to help. Things you need to realize. Brake are weaker on a 4 cyl, frame needs to be stronger, Steering needs to be beffier, rearend is not capable to handle the V8. Engine swap is easy but all other mod is costly.

my priorities for it aren't for racing. i just really want one. how much does a 5.0 mustang usually run? the only reason i wouldn't want to get rid of it is because of the fact that its been in the family for years and i've already put alot of money into it to keep it running. how much money am i exactly looking at? i live in corpus christi texas.
thanks for helping.

If you are going to get the parts at a junk yard, your better off getting a donor car $500-$1500. New parts $$$$$$$$$$$$ Honestly, if the car means that much. Keep it the way it is. If ya really want the extra power then sell the car for $1500 and get a low mile stang for about $4000. Instant gratification and you don't have to get under the car for a hundred hours, not to mention the lenght of time you wont have a car. Just my 2c

If that is the way you are going to go. A donor car is highly recomended. You may get the big parts cheap. But once you install it you'd realize that you will be missing a lot of little $hit. Most of it you don't realize and it will nickel and dime you. When you tally up every thing. You will be surprised at actually how much it set you back.

By the way. On top of my head. Let me give you a list of what else you'll need besides the T5 and rearend.

Driveshaft
The 5.0 motor with everything including the ECU
Brake calipers
Brake rotors
Spindles
Tranny support bracket
Fuel pump
Steering rack and pinion

And this is just what I can come up with in just a minute.
Can you get by without. Yes you can. But I'm not driving behind you when the motor falls off the frame. Good Luck

the way im doing u can call it jerry riged an cheap easy. down here u can get a built 302 for like 300 to 1000 bucks. but you rite about the fule pump an the tranny support. but i dont see any reason y i would have to upgrade on the barkes or rack an pin. i dont plan on beating on it. ive seen this done at least a dozen times an the people ive talk to said they had no problems but i agree withur way thats to go

Hey... more power to you. But I know for a fact, if ya have the power under the hood you will use it. Why else would you be doing a motor swap. If youre not gonna get on it, then stick with the 4 banger. Once you get on it, you will realize the brakes can't stop you.

Lotsa go...No whoa!!!!!
