2001 Mustang V6 with poor gas mileage any suggestions?
I have a 2001 v6 and i am lucky if i get 24 mpg on the high way. all the sites i look at say i should get about 30. i have a K&N FIPK air intake and eibach springs so i should have picked up a few mpg with that but i didn't. i have with 265/35/r18 on the car now, but i've had poor gas mileage when i still had stock rims and tires. i got the car used from a dealer auction so i don't know much about the history.
any sugestions?

Those tires and wheels will knock 2-3 mpg at a minimum off your mileage (more like 5 unless they're ultralight wheels), as will anything else that adds weight -amps, subs, etc.
you may have to clean your MAF with computer contact cleaner -what else have you done to the car? -The most reliable determinant of mileage is weight and your right foot.

the only other things i have done are Eibach lowering springs and a K&N FIPK II intake.
The mpg rating for your car is 27-29. knock off 3-5 mpg, and yours is spot on.
to increase your mileage, you need to increase the pressure in your tires, get rid of all the weight you can, and use your speed control buttons instead of your foot pedals.
you may be able to pick up a few MPG that way, but the rotational mass on your car is going to suck gas.
That's why economy cars generally have skinny, small tire/wheel combos.

i bought my car with an after market cruise control on it that doesn't work well. it has a contact plate on the clutch that is really low and it catches my shoe all the time and wont contact after a while, so to use my cc i have to get down on my floor board and re-adjust the bracket. i knew my tire didnt help, but i didnt think they would effect it that much.
so i found out from a firend that is a car sales men at the local ford dealership that around 25 highway for v6 is common and not 29 because what ford had on their estimated mpg was B.S. for most cars and on the 2008 stickers, that will change.

How fast do you usually drive on the highway?

It depends on
1) tune
2) tire pressure
3) speeds (above 60 it starts to drop pretty fast)
4) accessory use. AC will knock down your mpg 3-5, so run it when you need to, but don't leave it on.
5) your right foot.
