Motive or FRPP Gears. Which Gear Brand to go with?
O.k., I started a thread a couple of days ago about Nitrous in my bone stock '00GT and got some good feedback. I'm gettin it installed this weekend. Next is gears. I've been researching them for the better part of the day today and can't decide between Motive or FRPP. There's only a $20.00 difference. Any body have any real world experience with Motive. Are they prone to whining like the Richmonds?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Go with the FRPP, I know they are good. Don't know much about the Motive and the Richmond you need cheese to go with their whine. I have used the FRPP many times. just my$.02
Well, from what I hear Motive has been contracted to build the FRPP gears for now on. So, there may possibly be no difference between them except price.
The guy that installed my gears used to gurantee that FRPP gears wouldn't whine. Now he said he can't do that. Although, my gears do not whine at all.

The FRPP gears are made by the Sterling Gear Division of the Ford Motor Co. Sterling Gear has a reputation in the industry as being the best you can get. Their quality is second to none.----Chuck
when i was buying gears a couple of folks here said to go with motives...the guy installing them here shortly said that he would only put frpp on a mustang. everyone with the motives on my post did state that there was some noise issues though...no experience yet but i'll give you my opinion in about a week.

When I bought my FRPP 4.10 gears from AmericanMuscle.com, I got part number M4009G410A. The price was 220 dollars. Later I found some FRPP 4.10 for $180 on several sites. The part number was M4009G410M. I found out that the M at the end of the part number meant that it was manufactured by Motive for Ford Racing.
I'm glad I got the expensive ones, because I have heard of people complaining about gear whine with the M4009G410M. Please read this thread FRPP gears vs. Genuine Ford Parts gears - ModularFords.com for more information on the subject, and an actual post from a Ford Motorsports store manager explaining the issue and advising installers to get a different set of installation instructions for the M4009G410M that would prevent the whine.
Hope this helps. I strongly advice anyone buying gears to do some research before buying. I'm glad I did.
