Default Looking for some info on old skool mods

I read somewhere that before aftermarket EFI intakes existed, people looking for more power modified truck intakes because of the lower intake's flow potential. Are there any sites that have more info and pics? Also are there any good sites on Clevor buildups? And what is a 351w long rod engine? I heard that it has 400 rods but it doesn't make sense to me. No, I am not planning any of these mods, I just wanna see some crazy sh*t!

Old school is a long rod, it uses long push rods to seemingly increase the displacement. not 400 rods, but 8 giving you 400 Cubic inches of displacement from a 351 motor. what they also did was Port the heads for better air fuel flow increasing HP.

a longer rod helps unload side pressure on the piston skirt. rod ratio on stock 351 is about 1.70 if you put a longer rod like the 400 rod is 6.58" the rod ratio would be 1.88.you take the rod lenght stock 351 is 5.954 and / it by crank throw 3.5 and you get rod ratio.a good ratio is between 1.6-1.8.hope this helps.

LOL my shirt also has (more) side wall pressure, due to the increased length of the rod, placing more side pressure on the cylinder wall.

Does using long rods make a noticeable difference in power? Does it effect the amount of possible rev from the engine?

there is little to no hp differents with long rod motors.it's used mostly on road racing stuff that see alot of rmp swing.in a stock 351w the rod ratio is very good.if you change the crank stroke from 3.5 to 4'' and a .030 over bore it will make a 408.that will give you more power.

what gets you going faster, quicker is torque. Long rods will increase tourque, in the lower RPM range, and make the car faster off the line, with any Hydraulic roller cam valve float is a issue, above 6000 RPM . therefore the longer rod will not be effected, because the motor is generally not revved beyond 6000. The increase in displacement will also give you more Horse power. in the upper RPM range.
