Throw the casting number out there. What is it?
The 351 is a taller block and uses 1/2 in. head bolts. The 302 uses 7/16 in. head bolts.
If the block casting number starts with a C, it was cast in the 60's with the next digit will be a number indicating the year. Example "C9" = 1969. D would indicate the 70's and on with each decade in progression with the alphabet. The third digit would indicate what car line the block was originally designed for.
It is common for the blocks to be shared among car lines so it really doesn't tell you for sure what car the engine was originally installed in. Give us the casting number and I'm sure one of us can decifer it for you. ---Chuck
P.S. The casting number is located at the rear of the block where the starter would be located. |
