Default Late Model 302/331 Going Into 1965 Coupe. Tri-Power?

Hey guys. I'm just doing some pre-lim research here on the setup I'm planning to throw into my 65 when she's ready. The motor will definately be at LEAST a 331 stroker, if not a 347. Whether or not the block will be a new boss block just depends on my funding situation at the time of the build. I am planning on driving this car very heavily, sometimes to work and back, highway cruises, street fun, and the occasional open track day. I want it to be as fuel efficient as it can possibly be, and i understand that it wont be very. So my initial questions are about the new Barry Grant (demon carbs) tri-power setup for 302's. Does anyone have experience with it? What are the pro's and con's of the tri-power. Does running off the first 2-barrel at cruising speeds help fuel economy? Is a 750 CFM "Six Barrel" at WOT enough air and fuel for a stroker?

Any input is appreciated!
Thanks Guys!

With a tri power, you run off of the center carb while at light cruising speed, and then the front and rear carbs kick in like a normal 4 barrel does. That Demon tri power is really expensive and as far as making more power in comparison to a normal 4 barrel, it doesn't. I'd get it for the "being different" element only. It'd be an awesome engine bay and it'd be more than enough for a 331/347.

well I was mainly considering it because of the ability to cruise on the center 2bbl. I was assuming this would make my long highway hike across the country (2 month sabatical from work) a bit lighter on the wallet. Would i be just as well off with a standard 4bbl?

Any time you have multiple carbs you are going to have constant problems with keeping them all in sync. This set up is not a good idea for a car that is going to see a lot of road time in my opinion.

Get a single four barrel with vacuum secondaries and keep your foot out of the throttle if fuel economy is an issue. Stay conservative on the size of carb that you choose. ---Chuck

Excellent feedback guys. Thanks for all the help. It's looking like a standard 4bbl is going to be the ticket. I've really only worked with fuel injected mustangs, so oddly enough, going carb is going to be "new" for me.

Ya i tried doing the tripower thing my self back when i had my cougar. my father warned me about the sync problems.

Of course being a kid and not caring since it looked cool i went that route any how. I had a t-bird intake on my 410 with 3 2100 holly's pain in the @$$. ended up running dual 4's which really woke the 410 up.

but ya i agree a single 4 is your best option.
