To remove cam do you remove timing chain? If so, how to reinstall chain & set timing?

when removing the cam, do you have to remove the timing chain? if so how do you know where and how to put the chain back on to get correct valve timing. thanks any articles pictures websites would be appreciated.

You have to take off the cam sproket..which the timing chain is normalattached to. So yes you would have to remove the chain in order to change your cam. I would suggest getting a Chilton or a Haynes manual if you're going to attempt this yourself. To align your cam and pistons, you have to set the crank to top dead center, then use a degree wheel to align the cam.

Unless you are indexing the cam, there is a pin on the cam that only allows the gears to go on one way. They you just line up the dots on the gears and its done.

this is correct, #1 has to be at TDC and the valvetrain needs to be pulled too, which means the valve covers and intake has to come off

Oh yeah...I forgot about all those parts =). Remember to check the valve lash when you're done.
