I had that same thing, turns out it was a rod bearing that had spun. Hope that isn't your problem too. I'd check out the intake gaskets first, I've some split too and make more of a whistling sound, and it was at idle. Rev it and it'd go away till the engine slowed down, then it'd be back. But when the bearing spun, it was real annoying and did the same thing you describe, and then when it finally went, it changed from a chirp to a clank. It sounded like it was coming from the intake and is what threw me off as to what it was.
