Default 86 F-150 5.0 stumbling and rough idle.

as stated above, im working on an 86 F150. WOT is chugs getting a little faster each time. Horrible fuel economy, and a smell of running rich. Fixed a vacum line, unplugged both MAP and Temperature sensor.. both changed how it ran... so i figured they're working fine... Smells carbony out the exhaust, but under the hood, I smell raw fuel.. Got it back home and noticed liquid by the distributor.. .not a clear view of the fuel rails so until i can touch it in 2 weeks, itll sit there. What are the likely chances that the O-rings are leaking.. Im preventitive maintenence guy.. do they trickle or spray out? upper plenum covers so i cant see that well...
Does this sound like the prob? sounds of detonation at first and then stumbles.. could it be starved for fuel and dump in more to compensate?

I had a problem like that with a 3.8 conv. in a Ranger. Believe it or not, it turned out to be a dist cap and rotor. Not saying thats your problem, but check it out.

Some times with these computor controlled engines, we forget the basics still apply.

Oxygen sensor! You wouldn't believe what I did, when I rebuilt my motor and dropped it back in, I switched the Oxygen sensors wires by accident. I couldn't figure out what the problem was for soooooooo long.
