i bought a 98 for 500 dollars after being told that it leaked water from the rear of the engine and needed a freeze plug. no biggie, i thought, 300 for the repair and i've got a stang for 800 bucks. nope. as i get it towed into the shop, it leaves a small puddle and a trail of a red viscous liquid like power steering fluid or transmission fluid. what happened? could it leak from the tow after it got tipped up, or is this the "water" it was supposedly leaking. did i buy a junker?

If it's red fluid, it's most likely trans fluid. You might have a bad front seal.

yup, what he ^^ said. is it a gt or a v6?

its red power steering fluid. they showed me later where it had leaked out from as a result of the tow. i live in the mountains so we had some pretty steep climbs. its a v6 and i still dont know what is causing it to leak water from the rear of the engine.

Have you checked the heater supply hose?
