You can get a 1/2 inch drive sparkplug socket from Sears. I have one and it's in their Craftsman Line of tools. Use as long of a breaker bar as you can. This will allow you to control the amount of torque you're applying as the plug finally breaks loose. Remove the plugs slowly so that you don't damage the threads. After you've broken them loose spray some PB-Blaster around the base of the plug.
I've had a lot of experience pulling plugs from Modular engines. I worked for the city of JAX on their fleet of Crown Vics. I only had one occasion where the plug came out with the threads still on it. I don't understand why Ford doesn't put Anti-Seize on the plugs when they assemble the engine. Just take your time and you should be alright.
We used a Heli-Coil to repair the stripped threads and we never had a problem with it, But if you're like me, once that happens I'll be leary of the repair no matter what. Good luck, ---Chuck |
