Default 1968 Mustang with 1988 5.0 engine points gap & firing order?

I cannot find the proper points gap for this engine and have conflicting information for the firing order.

Hiya and welcome. Glad you joined us.
If it's an actual 1988 5.0 HO engine, then you have a 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order and a plug gap of .054.

Default Thanks for the quick answer

Do you by any chance know what the points gap should be?

Oh, points gap. I thought it said plug gap. If it's a 5.0 HO engine, then it should have HEI and no points unless the distributor has been changed. If it does have points, then I can't say what the gap should be, I don't want to give you the wrong info. I'd contact a performance ignition manufacturer like MSD, Accel, Mallory, and get a points set and see what they would recommend.

Default Thanks again

Yes I changed the distibutor and it has MSD ignition but all of a sudden everything quit working. I even disconected the MSD. I hooked up the points straight to the coil but still would not start.

Wish I could help you more. I know the MSD boxes can go out at any time, without warning. I know, I've gone through 3 of them and a Holley Annihilator before I found out it was where it was under the hood that killed it. They don't like getting hot at all. All I can say then is contact MSD directly and see what they say. Again, I don't want to give you the wrong info and steer you wrong.
