Default Need Engine Advice on a 1996 Mustang 3.8L

I just purchased a 96 Mustang 3.8 with approx. 200,000 miles on it. The motor needs a total overhaul. I want to know what is the biggest engine that can fit in it, or should I stick with the 3.8. This is a project car that I want to look nice and run great. Any advice will be appreciated.

drop in a 4.2L block - or else go whole hog.

you can fit a 460ci in it, a Lightning 5.4L SC or even the GT500 engine - you'll have to re-engineer the whole car, but you can do it.

question is what's your budget and goal?

The paint job is going to cost $5000!

What's your goal re: hp? Or rather, what do you intend to do with the car?

Paint job will be far less than that considering my father paints cars.

Dad is also a mechanic and hes trying to talk to me about motors but I wanted other opinions as well. I want the car to be a cruising car more of a show car type

In that case, look up GT-Eater or Shinerstang, or Shine1stang - they'll get you set up.
