Default Tremec 4615(TKO 500) Install in Fox Body

Hey guys. My transmission just died on me. I was considering buying a tremec and putting it in my 86 GT. Not quite sure if the input/output shafts will work with the original setup and or/if any mods need be done to do this. I've looked around but different sites say different things. Wanted to ask and see if anyone here had done one theirselves. Thanks in advance for any info!

You'll have no problems installing the transmission. You will want to upgrade to a 10.5" clutch and flywheel when you do so. You'll also need to index teh bellhousing during the installation, or else you will have problems.

Hmm.. Ok. Well I had read several places that you couldn't use the original bell housing.. and another stated the splines were different on the output shaft.. then another said I had to move the shifter back inside the car etc etc. I don't neccesarily "need" a tremec but I don't paticurally enjoy pulling transmissions either. Also read I would have to have a shorter drive shaft. <--- this is the one I'd rather not deal with as it has a new aluminum in it.

P.S. Not sure if there is any difference in mounting for the 3550 and the TKO?

Since I see you're from NC, I'd say call Carolina Mustang and get the actual parts list. I saw the whole kit you need from the crossmember to the clutch to the bellhousing but I can't remember what all is in it. I was there on Tuesday and saw all of it. They have all you need to do this and they're really good.
