Default 1969 Mustang Noisy lifters...what to do?

I have a 1969 mustang with a 302. I recently discovered that I had a flat cam, intake lifter on the number one cylinder was ground down more than a half an inch with resulting damage to the camshaft. I bought the performer series edelbrock camshaft and installed it. It came with hydraulic lifters and the rocker arms are positive stop non adjustable.
The car ran fine for a week or so (not much driving) and the lifters starting ticking. Ive tried everything... with no avail. I torqued the rocker arms to 20 ft lbs as instructed. The previous cam was a wolverine blue racer with about the same lift and duration. I reused the same pushrods and broke the cam in as instructed. Could I be not getting enough oil pressure? i am running a high pressure oil pump with the standard oil pan. Is there something that I am missing???

You need to check valve lash. If the valve lash was improperly setup from the beginning, you can very well damage the plungers inside the lifter body, and you'll be replacing them with new.

Hydraulic lifters have a pintle depth, and you adjust the valve lash based on this depth. The cheap way out is turning to a certain torque spec, or a certain 1/4-1/2 turn after zero lash. This can caused hung open valves or damaged lifters. You need to do it the right way with feeler gauges and a dial indicator.

is that the same as pre-loading the lifters? If not, is there somewhere where I can read more about how to do this?
