Default Headers are turning orange help

I have bbk chrome shorty equal length headers on my car. They are also wraped. Ever time I drive my car the headers turn orange on both sides. My timing is set at 14 degrees and my fuel pressure is 38 PSI. Why is this happening to my headers. How do I lower my engine compartment temp ?

Proudamerican23,

Sounds like you're running rich. I had BBK shorties on my blown 89 coupe and they lasted a week before the chrome blued. Never got hot enough to glow orange. Check your air fuel mixture.

Glowing headers can also be a sign of late timing. Has the harmonic balancer been checked for possible slippage, making the timing marks off from their correct positioning. You need to verify top dead center. Also did you remove the SPOUT connector when you set the timing or forget to replace it after setting the timing? ---Chuck
