Default 1984 Mustang Info On Ignition Upgrade

i need help finding the best bang for the buck on a complete ignition upgrade I have a carburated 347 stroker with 10to1 compression and currently using the stock duraspark ignition i like the MSD set up or Malory but there is big differences in voltage ratings.is bigger better or can to much spark be a bad thing.and if you have upgraded what do you think of the results?

Too much ignition power can cause more harm than good. With too much power, you can cause overheating, lean air/fuel mixture, and even up to melted spark plugs. The odd thing is the factory Ford electronic ignition is a really good system, it's good up to around 375-400 hp.
I currently use the full MSD Ignition, the 6A box, billet distributor, Blaster coil, and 8.5mm wires and it's more than enough to light off anything you probably have. Mallory is also good, they do hype "we have more power than MSD" to increase their sales. Both are good and you probably will do well with either.

I second that, I am using the 6A box, blaster coil and billet distributor on a carb'd 306 and does great.

I'm using a Mallory Comp 9000, Mallory ProMaster coil, MSD 6AL spark box and Ford Racing ign. wires. I think that both Mallory and MSD make fine systems, but part availability is much better with the MSD products.

I had a two month wait on a special order for the vacuum advance canister on the Comp 9000. Speaking of vacuum advance, make sure to get a distributor equipped with one if you plan on driving on the street. I will give you better drivability and fuel economy. ---Chuck
