Default royal purple motor oil

I was thinking about changing to synthetic motor oil but wasnt sure if it is really good, I have heard both arguments and wanted to get an opinion here, I was recommended to use royal purple, has anyone used this if so is the benefits worth the price?

I dont see a point in using it if you have a stock motor. Now if you have had the motor built and performance parts I would say yes. But if you do use synthetic Ive only herd good things about R.purple

I use it and to tell you the truth I don't notice a difference like the engine running faster. Royal Purple from my acknowlegdement is the best from what I herd.. It lubricates the engine better and doesn't take as long to lubricate the engine afterstart up

RP is good, but definately not the best. Amsoil and Mobil are near the top.

do you recommend lucas oil additive with mobil or amsoil
(I know you said lucas makes some great products, but didn't specifically state the oil additive...)

I use it in many vehicles, but never really did a comparison test to check the rings and cylinders 50k later

I use RP in a modded STi, and it has some hp gains. I use it in a stock V6 stang and I feel it runs decent, better than non-synthetic. On a stock 2007 C6 corvette, I feel it has gains as well.

As for RP, Mobil, etc. Mobil is one of the better brands out there when it comes to Oil Filters and Oil. Don't use Frams OF, they are said to be good but tests show that they are one of the worst. RP is right around the Mobil Oil, but way cheaper. Again, you pay for what you get in most cases, but Mobil tends to overprice their products.

Good luck!

PS: I may be wrong here, but I am told by a friend of mine (graduate in automotive mechanics or whatever) that if you do not start with Synthetic, don't use it. I am not sure if it is true, so if anyone has info that would be great, but just throwin it out there! Don't want you to screw up an engine. I am not sure as to why it would be bad but just try to find out man!

I use them both (Royal Purple and Mobil 1) and the added insurance against cold start up wear makes it worth the money to me.

In response to the question about Lucas additives, personally I would stay away from drivetrain additives because they tend to destabilize or eliminate completely the antifoaming agents. air in the oil = metal to metal contact. If you are using a good ester based synthetic such as Amsoil, Motul, RP, and Redline then additives are just a waste of money. As far as lucas goes the only product I use is the fuel additive, it has a nice upper cylinder lubing feature that is good, however I use seafoam exclusively for that now. Oh and dont be fooled by alot of the other mainstream oil companies who advertise as synthetic because several of them are just hydrocracked dino oils. As far as it being worth the money, look at it this way Amsoil states that their oil can go as much as 14k miles on a single oil change, thats at about 6.75 a quart versus a Mobil one oil change at every 3k @ roughly the same price. It does add up and is actually cheaper in the long run to use ester based especially if you factor in the wear and tear aspect of dino oil vs an ester based. sorry so long and if you want the sites I get my info from ill be happy to post them.

I've got Mobil 1 running in my 'stang. No leaks, runs great.

Royal Purple supposedly has little "fillers" that seal tiny cracks and such and polish surfaces. I don't understand that part
