Default 1993 stock 5.0 no start fuel pressure question

Hello,

I'm trying to get a stock 1993 5.0 transplant to light off for the first time since it was pulled from a wrecked running car. I have confirmed spark so I guess I have a fuel problem. What psi should I expect to see on a fuel pressure gauge during cranking attempts?

Is there a procedure to get air out of the lines or does the air purge automatically?

I ordered the gauge and expect it to arrive today so I am just trying to get ahead here...otherwise I would tell you guys what MY gauge says.

Currently the car has no exhaust system except headers and therefore the oxygen sensors aren't hooked up yet. It still should start, right? The fuel pump DOES go through its initial 3 second test when the ignition is turned to on.

When I crank it, it just makes weird bubbling and gurgling noises out the headers but it won't light off. Also, my oil smells like gasoline, so I'm thinking the fuel pressure is too high.

Thanks,

Ashley

Hiya, another NC'er.
You should see around 38-40 psi and you should see it even if you just turn on the key but don't crank it. You shouldn't have to worry about air bubbles either. Yes, the engine should crank without the O2 sensors being plugged in, it may not run right but it should start.
My question would be about the regulator. If the diaphragm inside is gone south, it could cause the engine to go either way... either lean or rich. I'd check that out. If it doesn't have an adjustable unit, it'd be a good time to get one.
