Did anyone Read the letter in the January issue of MM&FF on page 18 that had to due with Oxygenating Fuel with MTBE? I was just wondering what everyone thinks about that. I noticed a drop off in MPG during the winter so far.

I did not read article and see no reason for adding more oxygen in fuel. Doing this will make engine run like it's lean unless 02 sensors can overcome this. Kind of same reverse thing happens when switching from unleaded to race fuels as there is not as much oxygen and car runs fatter. Jet fuel has more oxygen because of less oxygen content in air at 40000 feet.

I wasn't saying we should!!! I was... the artical was saying that the fuel comanies do it to us and that I don't think that we like that.

Originally posted by Vortex you mean their poisoning our cars?
No Adam, it poisons the ground and water supplies. California, in its great wisdom, told the gas companies they had too use MTBE until they found out it is poisoning the ground and water supply. Now California, in its great wisdom, (does everyone hear the sarcasm) is phasing out MTBE
A bunch of ignorant people making uninformed decisions designed to save the world costing us more in the end.
